Welcome to the proposed Carrach Wind Farm website.

We have set up this website to give you information about our proposal for a wind farm 8km North West of Kirriemuir on the land where we live.

Carrach Wind Farm is a medium scale proposal comprising nine turbines each of 84 metres in height (from base to tip of the blade). They could produce on average enough electricity to power the equivalent electricity needs of over 4,000 homes (see calculation method).

The planning application for the project was submitted to Angus Council in late June 2011 for determination.

We hope this website will be useful in learning more about the proposal and in answering questions you may have about it. We are keen to get your feedback too.

There has of course been much debate about wind farm proposals in the area in the past, but we hope that our proposal can move that debate forward in a positive way with a new and different project.

For us the wind farm would help to diversify our farm businesses at a difficult time for the rural economy. However we also want communities with a connection to the area to share in some of the financial rewards should the proposal be successful.

Our neighbours in Alyth have already seen financial benefits come into their community from the Drumderg wind farm. It is our hope that Carrach Wind Farm can be Kingoldrum, Lintrathen and Kirriemuir’s contribution to Scotland’s energy and climate change challenges. At the same time we hope that the significant annual community benefit payments will enable those living in local communities to benefit from the project.  Find out more about our proposal on the Project page.

Signed,

G and K Richardson, Welton Farm
R and M Osborne, Kinclune Farm
Alistair Lang, Lower Welton Farm
